Many businesses nowadays are not only concerned with the operations and functions of the different business processes but also on how these processes are used, managed, and secured. In the formulation and design of services, the functionality and the policies governing the usage of these services are both considered by the technical team. Thus, it takes a lot of time and effort to finish and implement these services since both the functionality and the policies are hardcoded and it does not provide much flexibility in case some variable values have to be changed over time. To address this issue as well as to shorten the length of time it takes for development and implementation of the functionality and the policies, TIBCO Policy Manager brings a solution to this problem by separating the policy formulation from functionality, supplying configurable policy templates, and making policies declarative rather than procedural, thereby enabling dynamic businesses to be easily adjusted as the circumstances demand. It also makes policy formulation very simple that even personnel who do not have sufficient knowledge and experience in policy formulation such as people from the administration or management department of a company may be able to define policies. In this document, several questions regarding Policy Manager are presented such as the definition of Policy Manager, how it is used, and its features and advantages. Read more…

I am amused by the picture above. How could the cloud be the king of the sky when there’s the sun? However, it made me also think that clouds could pile up to cover the sun and so it could not be the king of the sky. However, this simile seems applicable: you cannot look directly at the sun that is so bright and luminous like a powerful king.
Actually, I’m blogging here about cloud computing which is a new emerging technology. Just so you know, cloud computing enables you to gain access to software services offered via the Internet. You might be familiar with Google Docs that provide you with word processing and spreadsheet applications. These applications can be directly accessed and used without installing them into your own computers. You don’t also need to save these documents in a storage device. Wherever you are, whatever computer you are using, anytime you want, you can access these applications and carry with you your documents as long as you have a web browser and a stable Internet connection. It’s not much of a hassle! This is the very essence of cloud computing – to provide you convenience and make computing tasks portable, easy and simple. You don’t have to bother yourself with the presence of the sun behind the clouds, which could make your life difficult. The sun is the back-end or infrastructure that governs and manages these applications. The cloud is the one that provides you connectivity to the functionality of applications offered as services through the Internet.
In order to develop these kinds of applications, you need a development tool that also enables you to build applications with the cloud. The software tool you need is TIBCO Silver. I have been reading and studying a lot about this software and I find it amazing and very helpful for businesses that want to create applications in a fast way. If you want to know more about Silver, I’ve written an article that talks about its benefits and advantages to your company. Click here.
In the video, Rourke McNamara explains briefly what TIBCO Silver is and its benefits and advantages.
Silver is another remarkable TIBCO software that will help you achieve leverage in your business applications and make your business successful. Not so far from now, the cloud could be the king!

Have you been interested with magic, superpowers, telekinesis, mental telepathy, witchcraft, wizardry, hypnosis, and the like? I have NO idea about such except that I watched some of those in Harry Potter movies.
I was a bit curious when a friend told me about ‘mentalism’. I took the time to google it and I found out that mentalism is a kind of performing arts that started a long time ago. It is a form of stage magic. It works on presenting the illusions that our own minds create.
I always believe that the human mind or brain is the most powerful apparatus God has given us. It is because the mind is the one that controls the entirety of our body functions; even the emotions per se.
The most intelligent, creative, and spectacular minds among the human race brought about inventions, theories, practices, and trends that are useful and indispensable for human development. The human brain is so unique and diverse and that diversity gives each one of us an identity. However, each one’s differences also make every individual a complement of another for we are like puzzle pieces that complete a bigger picture in this world, which drives mankind to his ultimate purpose and quest.
The powerful mind can process thousands of thoughts at a single point in time, yet we can only perceive or interpret a handful of them. I believe that we do not forget experiences but these experiences just linger on our subconsciousness. This is the reason why some would experience the so-called ‘de javu’ or a repetition of previous encounters or experiences but they couldn’t recall when and where these happened.
Do you believe that mind-reading or prediction is possible? In my opinion, if it is possible for the brain to hold and recall everything we had been through in the past, it is also possible that we can foretell or predict our future! All we need to do is correlate all these experiences and take note of the conditions that would lead us towards these experiences. If we know all of these conditions, we can exactly portray a cloud of future events. Each of these events is the outcome of every possible condition. Through this event cloud, we can make appropriate decisions. However, our minds have limitations. Our minds get tired and need rest to recover; that is why we tend to forget what’s on our mind. I guess that’s just the way God designed humans so that our future will be exciting for each one of us and we will be able to get there through patience, hard work, and faith.
Human beings continue to break grounds through advancements in technology, which make possible the POWER TO PREDICT! Let me introduce to you a TIBCO software – TIBCO BusinessEvents – that is a product of humans’ mind power. It is a software that helps businesses analyze the different events that happen within and across their organization and identify those events that pose a potential harm or benefit; and then apply predefined rules before problems or opportunities occur! It is a fantastic way to get your business to the next level!
In the video, Jazon Samillano, Chief TIBCO Architect and Founder of Xmarter, Inc., talks about TIBCO BusinessEvents.
I have been working on TIBCO BusinessEvents for a long time now. This software has always fascinated me and it is so amazing how it can help businesses achieve their goals. If you want to know about TIBCO BusinessEvents, I have written a document that summarizes its features and advantages. Click here.
We had another self-development program last Saturday. The topic was about “Focus.” Ellen gave us some points on why we need to have focus and how to achieve focus on our goals and on the job. It was a fun and helpful presentation. Focus is a very simple thing to understand yet hard to practice. We realized most of us loose focus on our goals and on the job, and the reason for it may be distractions, personal problems, thinking too much about other things, physical discomfort, and many others. It’s easy to see and think about what is in front of us but it’s actually hard to keep ourselves from noticing the background. This background represents those things that make us loose track of what we want to achieve and reach. Focus is aptly about “not being distracted and overcoming procrastination”. It is about “seeing, feeling, and breathing the outcome you want, not the one you don’t want.” It is like fixing your eyes on a single focal point without being swayed. It may seem hard to lock your eyes on a tiny dot when it is nicer to view something else other than that. However, with a consistent and constant practice, we can be able to master intense focus and achieve the end result we want.
Ellen also presented certain games and exercises to test our focus. Cyrus, one of us, was asked to count backwards from 100 to 1. As he did that, we tried to make noise and distract him. Personally, I found it hard to count backwards since I don’t usually do that, yet Cyrus was able to do that very well showing he had focus despite the noise and distractions. Vincent did the hardest task of all, that is, to recite the letters of the alphabet backwards. The same thing happened. We tried to distract him. It seemed Vincent was indeed distracted and we all just ended up laughing. He finished reciting all the letters from “Z to A” but he had a lot of mistakes in the middle. It wasn’t seamless but I think what is important is that he achieved the end result and didn’t give up to reach the ultimate goal. Thus, in order to be successful, it does not only take a brilliant mind, but most importantly, an intense focus and a great determination. I just remembered the classic story about the turtle and the hare. I know most of us know about that. What happened in the end is that the turtle won the race over the hare! Even though the turtle walks slowly than the hare, he had something that the hare did not have. It is focus. The turtle didn’t dwell on his limitation but he intensely focused on his ultimate goal, that is to reach the finish line. And he did! No matter how limited our resources are or even though it may seem that we have insufficient talents or skills, if we have focus, determination, and a positive attitude, we can conquer any obstacle. We can climb any mountain. We can break any wall. I am always inspired by the focus and determination of the turtle and how he defeated the proud hare.
Ellen also gave us an exercise that made me realize that it is absolutely impossible to stop ourselves from thinking, but with a little practice and effort, we will be able to learn how to take control of our minds and not the other way around. If we only know how to “witness our mind,” we will be able to filter those thoughts that come to bombard our minds everyday. If we learn how to take priorities and select the right things to think about, we will be able to attain focus. In the exercise, we simply closed our eyes and our ultimate goal is to think of nothing. It is a way to relax our minds from the daily tensions and pressures of work. However, most of us said that it is hard to keep from thinking of something. Even when you close your eyes, you still might think of certain things such as the way you breathe, the darkness, the ticking of the clock, or the noise around.
Generally, it is really hard to keep ourselves from thinking but if we learn how to take control of our minds, we can select those thoughts that need to enter our minds and leave behind those thoughts that don’t require our attention. In that way, we can focus on our ultimate goal and achieve success in every aspect of our lives. It was a good realization for most of us and I hope I could apply intense focus on myself so that I will be successful in every endeavor.
We had an unusual Toastmasters meeting last night. Instead of starting with the opening prayer, it started with adjournment. It was a reverse!
Toastmaster Alex was the Toastmaster of the Evening with his theme “Break Conventions.” Everyone picked his role on the spot – impromptu and unprepared. It was a fun and different meeting because instead of clapping our hands to welcome the speakers, we stomped our feet instead. Weird!
We didn’t expect the meeting to be that productive since everyone was unprepared. I even got the most unexpected role – the Jokemaster! You know that I’m not a joker. I don’t memorize jokes. I don’t have joke messages in my phone. Nothing! Well, I just begged my co-Toastmasters to give me some jokes which were mainly from the inbox of their phones. The good thing is that they were short and very comprehensible. The bad thing is that I have to translate the jokes from Filipino to English. Haha..
Actually, I like the theme “Break Conventions.” Why do we have to break conventions when we are comfortable with the current state we have? To break conventions means to break traditions and the monotony of the usual things. It is to break the repetitive patterns present in today’s society. It is setting up new trends and practices. It serves as a challenge to bring out something new and unusual. It is a call to abolish the status quo and create a new one. It exhorts us to get out of our comfort zone and take risks in order to further ourselves in the race and to improve ourselves more.
To break conventions does not mean to attempt to make something different because we have to forward our own interests, but it is always geared towards the common good. An example we have in our company (Xmarter, Inc.) that is unconventional is that we work six days in a week! In other companies, employees only work five days in a week! Six days means a lot of work, accomplishments, and throughput for a project. Because we work for an extra eight hours, we can do more things and can finish the project in a much less amount of time! Thus, it is advantageous and beneficial for those business companies that would get our services. These businesses can be assured that our job won’t only be of high quality but of higher throughput as well!
Another thing that is considered unconventional in our company is that we don’t have a fixed time to go to the office as long as we render eight hours of work per day or 48 hours of work per week, and we are able to accomplish our daily goals. For me, that is absolutely convenient. Our work is based on productivity and not on the number of hours you stay in the office. This goes to show that we can be productive without counting the hours we work each day. Productivity does not rely on figures as long as you are a goal-oriented person and your mind is focused on achieving or accomplishing many tasks at the end of the day!
For me, breaking conventions is a step towards reshaping the world. In our homes, we don’t arrange our furniture and appliances the same way and style within a year. We usually rearrange them to suit our moods and the season. If we don’t do that, our homes would just be the same. Of course, it is not the same old decorations that impose the monotony. It is how they are placed and arranged in the same old position or style. To make our homes more exciting, we often rearrange every two to three months.
The same principle applies to us. If we want to make our lives and the world more exciting, let us try to do a little experiment by breaking some conventions.
